♥ about me / us

teacuppamelaAbout me… or us, our journey in “the welcome home” and newly renamed: “mama’s journal” 🙂

I think that descriptions of oneself frequently sound like boasting or self-aggrandizing… so if I boast in anything, I boast in this: the Lord is faithful, merciful and kind and has been only good all the time. I recognize the Lord has been so very merciful to me and to our family — He has blessed me beyond the counting and has patiently walked with me throughout my journey.

So… here you have it:  I’m a Christian wife and mother on a long journey walking in faith in the Lord Jesus.

wesandpamela2015aI’m so thankful to and for my husband and marvel that the Lord has given us forty-one years of marriage thus far.  The Lord’s sure been merciful to us in this journey so many good things — and despite our failings, shortcomings and botched experiments in bringing up eleven children — we can sincerely say: it is well.  These years of walking together, the life the Lord’s planned for us — years filled with great joys to give us hope and sorrows to keep us humble; forty-one years seeking to live out God’s calling, self employed, homeschooling, training up children, and guiding a home and family and now, also “in-lawing” and grandparenting many more children.  Our life’s been filled with great blessings and we can look back on this journey and say maybe it hasn’t all been perfect and hasn’t all been beautiful… but it’s been good and all is well.

We’re not ricocheting from one Christian fad to another — but we’ve had our share of trying to “do the right things” trying to apply different things we’ve been learning — and the great mercy and blessing of the Lord has been that while He’s allowed us to meander on the path, try and live a fill-in-the-blank method of Christian living, occasional rabbit trails with foxholes,  He continually pulls us back to sharpen our focus, causing us to recognize that we simply need to be in step with the Him: following Him, and not following ‘man’ — abiding in His Word, by His Spirit, at His pace and in His timing… knowing the love of God is greater far that tongue or pen can tell.

We trust in the living, infallible, inerrant, inspired Word of God.  We tend to use only the KJV, ESV and the Geneva Bible.   We have been a part of a large church, a small church, a church family meeting house to house rather than in a denominational church, and recently, after eleven years in the house church, we found ourselves “church shopping.”  It is with great and humble praise that several years ago we were welcomed back into the local church we’d previously long been part of and had remained connected to.  We were blessed by reacquainting ourselves, getting back into local ministry and seeing great fruit and growth in this body… and, more, to see that God was in this journey — in it all — all along!

In addition to writing and sharing with women, teaching TitusTwo meetings, I enjoy coffee, studying on the porch, gardening,  homemaking and baking — but I especially love to make cake!  I made a site for sharing pictures of cakes and other sweet treats.
You can see some of my cakes and baking projects at abellacakewords12pta
I hope to have time to add a bunch more photos and recipes someday!

 mama’s journal

My heart is inditing a good matter:
I speak of the things which I have made touching the king:
my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.”  Psalm 45.1

My blog entries are, hopefully, like my life… sort of an ellipsis. That things would be understood as much by what is not said as what is said. I often pray that my life would demonstrate and convey the Truth… even if some words are left out. So… I’m a believer, a follower of Jesus Christ, my LORD — and because of Him — and only because of Him — I’m an help meet for, or fitted to, my husband; the mother of eleven children and four daughters-in-law and a happy gramma to four remarkable grand-dears.

I share slices of life because of what God is doing and has done —
thus, I write with the intent and hope of being an encouragement
to others to press on toward the mark.
(Philippians 3.14)

Most days I find it difficult to escape to a quiet area to write — that, and with a home full of many active people, my time’s spent in the nurturing, washing, care and feeding a houseful.   I work at making this HOME.  I work at increasing faith, understanding and learning.  I work at aesthetic skills or the craft of being a home maker & keeper at home. But that’s one of my life goals after all… that of being a quintessential keeper at home and all it connotes. Would that it be said of me in my home and of you in yours:

Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously,
but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful,
and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD,
she shall be praised.”
Proverbs 31.28-30

The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty;
He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy;
He will rest in his love,
He will joy over thee with singing.
Zephaniah  3.17

May the LORD bless you, your family, your home and all that enter therein.
And may He joy over you with singing.
