One of the Saddest Days in the History of this Nation Posted on January 17, 2009 By pamela January 20, 2009 will be, no doubt, a day marking the beginning of some of the most significant political decisions this country has ever experienced — and, in my opinion, one of the saddest days in the history of this once great nation. I decided not even to comment on the planned events of the inaugural week — for some are so vile it’s actually shocking to read. I write this two and a half days before the actually “swearing in” of the next President of the United States of America… One nation, so divided, with liberty and justice for a lot – but not all. And the new President will likely sign into law legislation that will further prevent and deny liberty and justice for all. Some of the activities, the “prayers” and participants in the inaugural show truly are a grievous departure from what was once the government based on biblical principles. Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD…” Psalm 33.12 Biblical prophesy foretold these signs of the times when men would worship the created more than the Creator and when men would be fools though professing to be wise and when men would not retain God in their thinking. Truly, this is an incredible time in history and has been known by the LORD from the foundation of the world. Even so: Come Lord Jesus. Romans 1.16-32 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” — Romans 1.16-32 God help us all. Molly, thank you for writing. Different points of view are always informative though I believe you’re likely responding not simply to my blogging but also to others’ comments and to media as well. I could probably address your letter point by point but will refrain for I assume your questions are rhetorical — you have had an opportunity to express your many opinions. To rebut your points would appear cantankerous and argumentative (which, I assume you already presume I am) and I do not use this venue to argue but rather to just share slices of life and views of the day. Time will tell the rest of the story on all things Obama. And I genuinely believe the time of telling will come shortly. I can’t believe you think this is one of the saddest days in the history of this nation. Finally we have an actual Christian in the White House! What seems more Christian to you–causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraq people through war (remember the first commandment? it applies to Muslims too, not just unborn babies) or ending the war in favor of peace and cooperation like Obama promised? Which would Jesus rather see–helping those who are already so rich they need nothing else, or giving health care to poor children and assistance to young mothers, like Obama will? Does Jesus really care what nationality you are, or does he want us all to prosper and love one another? Do you think He would agree with building a giant fence between us and MExico to keep the poor and the suffering out? especially because 90% of the Mexican population is devout Christian? You people pervert the word of Jesus so much it’s disgusting! Who are you to judge what is good prayer and what is “prayer” with quotation marks around it? Isn’t that God’s job? Or has God suddenly appointed you the judger of men? If your main concern is pro-life, consider that Obama has already proposed more plans than Bush ever did to cut the abortion rate. Illegalizing abortion doesn’t do it–read research about countries like El Salvador, where abortion is illegal. The abortion rate doesn’t go down, the procedure just gets botched and more often than not the mother dies too. The world is “bowing down” to Obama because they see HOPE and LOVE and KINDNESS in him–isn’t that what being a Christian is all about? God bless you and bless President Obama, who is a TRUE Christian who cares about others and loves those who pursue peace and happiness no matter what there religion. I am 100% confident that the real Jesus, not the one perverted by the religious right, the one who talks almost exclusively about LOVE and HELPING THE POOR is thrilled that Obama has come to the White House!!!
My children and I will be watching the events as an “in-home field trip”. I think it is a very important lesson for them to see how the world honors one of its own. When I tell them some of the things this man stands for, and yet the world bows down to him, they will learn something very valuable, I believe. God Bless you Pamela.
Thank you for expressing the Truth. I agree, and I will not be a “part”, even technologically, of this event. My daughter, and my family, will spend time doing enjoyable things that will eventually make memories instead. I am so thankful for women and people who stand firm and speak the Truth for us all. Thank you both for writing — I agree with and understand what you’re saying and I do and will pray for this president as I have other men before him. I honour the office of President of the USA – and agree that this *is* temporal and that God has allowed this for *His* purposes and His glory in the end. Today, more than when I wrote that entry, I believe this is one of the saddest days in history for the US. It’s not so much that a portion of this nation elected this man and it is not bcz I do not respect the man — it is bcz *I* believe this to be the marked turning point in this nation in many ways – though the decline has been occurring for decades. The sweeping pending or proposed legislation, the massive expansion of government and the way many offices were ‘procured’ in this presidency, the unparalleled debt, the size, power and control the government will have over the citizenry of this land – not to mention the activities and posturing surrounding this Inaugural ceremony and week’s events, the pray-ers and the prayers are but a few of what I refer to when I say this is one of the saddest days/times in the history of this nation. I attempted to say all this — as my opinion — so that it would be clearly seen that I’m stating things the way I’m seeing them — but will likely not convey completely. I would never have honoured Hitler, but I would have obeyed laws not contrary to the Word of God. I do not think this is a stretch of Scripture to give that example. Even still, Come Lord Jesus. Regardless of the President’s political standing he is our president and he needs our prayer. We are told to honor our leaders…even if we don’t see eye-to-eye with them and even if they do not honor God.
I am not watching the Obama festivities. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. God is allowing this for His purposes. I need to trust in that and not be distracted by everything surrounding this different time in history. It is temporal in the end.
