Stand in the faith:
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
1Thessalonians 5.21
We may often forget that “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.” (1Cor 10.26) In the social media clips, memes and status updates, in the mass media news pieces, sound bites and video clips, we think we have the whole picture and a grasp of what’s needed to solve society’s problems, and forget that the sovereign Lord’s ways are higher than our ways. We do forget that sometimes, don’t we? We forget that vengeance belongs to the Lord. We forget that it is He whose Name is blessed “…for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” (Daniel 2.20-22) We forget that the Word of the Lord is strong. The Word… “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” — that Word. Jesus. God in flesh. The Word. So all the things going on around us, all the political mayhem, the wickedness, the trials, the chaos. “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18.25) We forget the Word, though, don’t we?
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him
was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1.1-5
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ephesians 6.10-18
I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you?
no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
1Corinthians 6.5
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:
because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1John 4.1
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
1Corinthians 16.13
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2Timothy 3.1-5
“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2Timothy 3.12-17
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women [don’t be that girl!] laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ”
2 Timothy 3.1-7
