A Titus 2 Journey ~ Week 4 ~ receiving instruction

Titus 2.3-5 ~ receiving instruction

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers,  not given to much wine, teachers of good things;  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands,  to love their children,  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands,  that the word of God be not blasphemed.   Titus 2. 3-5

Titus 2 ~ Week Four

Action: Read the Titus-2 Journey verses:  Titus 2.3-5

♥ This Week’s Verses:  Again, Titus 2.3-5

Last week you were to write what these three verses mean to you personally: 3  The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness,  not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;  4  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,   5  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Since this whole passage is basically an instruction for what Titus was to teach, we need to consider what it means to receive instruction.  This week I’d like to focus on “our part” of the instruction, that of receiving and applying the teaching.  Our understanding and application of the teaching or instruction we receive will be evident in our character and behaviour.  ⇒ How, or how soon, we apply it will demonstrate our hearts’ desire—if our heart’s desire is to be fully yielded to the Spirit of God then the instruction will be well received—even fervently desired.  And, with that, a more willing or ready obedience (even if it’s hard)!!

Thoughts for discussion:

  • How well do you receive teaching or instruction?
(hint: how well did you receive your husband’s suggestions for your time/days?)
  •  In what area do you see your greatest need regarding instruction [or do you lack instruction?] ?
  • This is a good time for a group to “open up” and share (as is appropriate) what the Lord is revealing in His Word or what He’s prompting in your heart as you begin to focus on what you’re learning.  If you’re studying alone, make notes regarding what you’re prompted to do.

A little deeper

  • If you have a hard time receiving instruction, can you identify what’s making you resistant?  This may have to be done in private, alone, in prayer, with your husband, etc., etc.
  • Could you take care of any of it /them today?

Affirmations/Decisions for the week ahead

  • When I receive instruction, I am going to________________________.
  • I’m going to seek to apply what the Lord is impressing on my heart from His Word.
