A Titus 2 Journey ~ Week 7 ~ Behaviour

Titus 2.3-5 ~  behaviour

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers,  not given to much wine, teachers of good things;  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands,  to love their children,  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands,  that the word of God be not blasphemed.   Titus 2. 3-5

Titus 2 ~ Week  Seven

♥ This Week’s Verses:   1 Peter 3.1-4  “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.  Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

Action:  Read verse 3 again: “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers,  not given to much wine, teachers of good things;”

Thoughts for discussion:

  • To the aged women, he was commanding: “…that they *be* in behaviour as becometh holiness…” BE.  To *be* in behavior… who is exempt? ___________________________________________________________

1Peter 1.15-16 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

  • Behaviour as becometh holiness… holy behaviour.  Just a couple of words but overflowing with meaning and impact. There is a key reason why a Christian woman must pay strict attention to her behaviour.  What is it? (T2.5)
⇒_________________________________What would  this [keeping this key reason in mind] do to, or how would this affect, your decision making process?
  • What is behaviour that becometh holiness — Or what is holy behaviour?  Think on this.  Really take some time to think about what this really means in your life.   Consider seen and unseen behaviour.  And, further consider that unseen behaviour eventually becomes seen, to one degree or another. So, behaviour that becometh holiness – or – holy behaviour:
    • Is it all inward?  (give examples of inward behaviour)
    • Is it all outward?  (give examples of outward)
  • By the way, what did you say is the key reason a Christian woman must pay strict attention to her behaviour??
Yes!  That’s right:  That the word of God be not blasphemed!♥ Just a note:
When discussing outward appearance or outward behaviour, Christian women often fear being labeled, or are labeled as legalists or legalistic.  However, from the verses we’re studying, what key words tell you that attention to or observance of holy behaviour is *not* legalistic.

  • What does it mean to do/not do  this?
And the, specifically, what does it mean to blaspheme the Word of God?

(Can your answers be *supported* by specific Scripture references!)

♥ A Little Deeper:

  • Can you imagine: what if everything you do, everywhere you go, everything you say were to be influenced or directed by the Bible Truth:
“… that the Word of God be not blasphemed.”
  • Do you ever stop to ask yourself: Is this holy behaviour?  Or, is this behaviour holy?  Whichever way you word it: Does this behaviour blaspheme the Word of God?Ouch, right????
  • Toss a rock into a pond and see the ripple effect.  Do you see the similarities of  a ‘ripple effect’ in your own life?  Lives you touch influence decisions they make which in turn influence others’ decisions and so on and so on.  You may or may not ever be aware of the degree of influence you have in your community or in other’s lives.  Your sphere of influence is greater than your sphere of acquaintance. And we’ll talk about that next time.
